New Vice Chair welcomed by f40 fair funding campaign

Fair funding for schools campaign group, f40, today announced the appointment of Gary Streeter MP as its new Conservative Vice Chair.

Gary, who represents the South West Devon constituency, will lead on the campaign group’s Parliamentary activity.

F40 chair, Councillor Ivan Ould, who is also Lead Member for Children’s Services in Leicestershire, said: “I am delighted to welcome Gary as our new Vice Chair and as a member of our Executive Committee. He a great track record of fighting for fairer funding for schools and for education in general. He will be a great asset to the group, especially as we have informed the government that there is still more to do to deliver fair funding for all English schools.

“Gary represents a constituency where the local authorities – Devon County Council and Plymouth City Council – suffer from inadequate and unfair funding compared to others elsewhere.  By taking on a high-profile role in f40, Gary is clearly demonstrating his determination to fight for a fairer deal for the children in schools in his constituencies, as well as across the country.”

Gary Streeter said: “It is an honour to have been invited to become the Conservative Vice Chair of the f40 campaign group. Fair funding for schools is one of my main interests and I am determined to see improvements made to the new national funding formula launched by the government this financial year.

“Whilst welcoming the fact that we have now moved to a national funding formula and acknowledging the extra £1.3 billion of funding made available to schools, I share f40’s continuing concerns about the new formula and remaining locked-in inequalities. There is unanimous recognition among f40 member authorities and many MPs that there is still more work to do to tackle the continuing unfairness within the system and I hope that I can play a constructive part in achieving further beneficial change.”
