The group representing the lowest-funded education authorities in England, has welcomed the start of a consultation in respect of a new funding formula for the allocation of education cash.
Although there has been some delay in reaching this point, the chairman of f40, Cllr Ivan Ould, who is also Lead Member for Children and Older People’s Services at Leicestershire County Council, the lowest funded of all authorities, welcomed the announcement.
He said, “The announcement and start of the consultation is just the latest step in the process that we hope will lead to the introduction of a fairer and more equitable funding allocation system for all school children.
“The documents distributed by the Government as part of the consultation will have to be studied in detail, but at first glance it appears that there are many points covered that f40 authorities will be pleased to see included.
“The consultation raises many questions about the detail of the education funding and flags up many options and choices about the best ways to allocate it in a reasonable way. It is vitally important that we maintain our campaign and that f40 and all of its member authorities actively embrace the consultation, making sure that we emphasise to the end how important it is that children in our schools achieve a fair deal.
“Conducting a major consultation of this nature during an election period is not going to be easy, but at least all the arguments are going to be well and truly aired. I hope that politicians will look at the moral position – the need for a fair system – and not get too bogged down in the politics.”
F40 will issue a further statement on the consultation as soon as its officers have analysed the Government’s reports.
